BitMine’s Treasury Grew in Ether and Shrank in Dollars

BitMine Immersion Technologies, the Connecticut company chaired by Tom Lee, opened its November 2 disclosure with a number large enough to rearrange the public-crypto-treasury leaderboard: $14.5 billion. The total covers crypto, cash, marketable securities, and two equity stakes the company labels its moonshots. Read on its own, the figure sounds like a record. Read line by line, it shows something less obvious: a corporate treasury can grow in tokens while shrinking in dollars.

What the $14.5 billion is made of

The total is a stack, not a single asset. The dominant line is 6,060,506 ETH, which the company valued at $2,261 per token, or about $13.7 billion. The remaining pieces are 216 bitcoin, $498 million in cash and marketable securities, a $180 million stake in Beast Industries, and an $82 million stake in Eightco Holdings. The ether position is more than nine-tenths of the stated total, so the treasury’s value is, in practice, a bet on one asset’s price.

The number moved in opposite directions

The useful detail is what changed between disclosures. In late September, when ether traded near $3,000, BitMine held roughly 5.7 million ETH worth more than $17 billion. It now holds about 6.06 million tokens, more than before, yet the dollar value is lower because ether has fallen roughly 25%. A treasury measured in dollars can contract while the token count climbs, and any second-largest ranking is a snapshot that rises and falls with the price of the asset rather than a fixed position. Investors who read only the dollar total can miss that the underlying position actually grew.

Most of the ether is now working

BitMine reported 5,227,037 ETH staked through MAVAN, its in-house validator network, worth about $11.8 billion at the reference price. That is roughly 86% of its ether position, and it converts a static holding into an income-producing one. The company projects about $415 million in annualized staking rewards once the position is fully deployed, against roughly $358 million today. Those are projections, not guarantees: they depend on staking yields that move over time and on the company actually deploying the remaining ether.

What to treat as a claim

Several lines in the release are the company’s own framing rather than settled facts. The Alchemy of 5%, BitMine’s stated goal of owning 5% of all ether, puts it at 4.9% of the 122.2 million ETH in circulation, but the goal itself is a corporate target. The number-one Ethereum treasury ranking is BitMine’s characterization, and it sits on the same price that just moved against the company. Chairman Tom Lee’s argument that the muted market reaction to last week’s Binance theft signals a bull market is his interpretation. Each statement is worth reading as coming from a party with a stake in the outcome.

How to read the next one

When the next treasury disclosure arrives, separate the token count from the dollar valuation, check which price the company used, and ask whether the total mixes liquid assets with stakes that are hard to sell. Those three questions turn a headline number into something a reader can actually evaluate.
